Storage
Sleeping soundly is easier when the clutter is taken care of. Organise your bedroom with these clever products designed to accommodate clothes, books and more.

- Buisseau Set of 2 Bedside Wall ShelvesLa Redoute
Back to cane – and if one shelf isn’t enough then why not have two? Book, light and glasses on the top. Tea, clock and charging apparel below.
- Brunel rolling underbed storageHeal's
If you have space under the bed then you have valuable (and hidden) storage capacity. But if you despair at the thought of bringing more plastic into the house, then these beautiifully crafted oak boxes might be the solution. They sit on hidden wheels so you can easily access them and won't look horrid when the edges are on view. Use for spare bedding or, in kids' rooms, to just tip all the Lego into - this will also make it easier to put away. Buy once, use for ever.
- White Oak Wardrobe by Oliver FurnitureSkandium
This wardrobe comes in various sizes and has flexible shelving, so you can arrange the inside to suit your requirements. But the really clever part is the hooks on the outside. Good for dressing gowns or towels, or the next day's outfit. No reason why this should be restricted to the children.
- Mabel ceramic indoor/outdoor TableAnthropologie
Sensible fashion people will tell you to never buy a new item of clothing unless you can think of three outfits you can make with it. It's always worth applying the same thought to furniture to make sure you'll get good use out of it. This pretty ceramic table is billed as indoor/outdoor. But it will also liven up a sitting room, or work as a matching pair of bedside tables. It would be brilliant in a bathroom to rest a glass of wine by the bath or even stand the soap on in a large shower. Turns out this is so useful it should practically be mandatory.
- Pokhara Solid Walnut End TableLa Redoute
Side tables are endlessly useful and versatile. So if you like the style, you can never go wrong. Use as an occasional table in a sitting room or a bedside table, even in an office with a lamp on top. Some will double up as stools - this one isn't designed for that - but is a well-conceived piece.
- Magosia Solid Walnut DeskLa Redoute
One of those valuable crossover pieces that will be useful for years and years. Use it (as I have here) as a dressing table that might make a place to WFH too. Move it into the sitting room to double up as a console table and desk. Or, finally, if you do have an office, it's made for in there and you can use it for a desktop computer and keep all your pads and pens together in the drawer. Another reason I like it? No brass tips on the legs. Yes, it's a pet hate – but they tend to look cheap and will date. This is simple, pared back classic and will stand the test of time.
- Olsen Burl SideboardSoho Home
Sometimes you just fall in love with a piece for no reason other than it's lovely. This is beautiful and the sort of thing that you should keep forever and turn into a family heirloom. The grained wood gives it character and makes it look expensive (it is expensive) and it will not only hide all the clutter and bumf you don't want on display but give you space on top to arrange lovely things. One for the wishlist (if I had room).
- Warwick Bedside TableSoho Home
I have long turned to vintage when it comes to bedside tables as so many of them fall into the cheap and shabby chic category, but I make an exception for this. It’s crafted from burl veneer, which creates a really lovely pattern, and the recessed handle is a gorgeous detail. It’s 55cm wide and 52cm high and is a piece to love forever for sure.
- Solidus bedside tableLa Redoute
This is a much more modern look from La Redoute and is made from sustainable Suar wood, which is similar to teak but has a stronger grain. It’s 52cm high and 30cm square. If you like lots of storage but fear losing things in the deep dark recesses of drawers this could be the one for you. It also comes in a natural finish and is perfect for stacking books current and future, notebooks, handcream and lipsalve as well as a glass of water and the charging station. It’s a way of being very organised and very tidy in a minimal and attractive way.
- Fumed Oak tableChristopher Howe
This really is a pretty fluted table by Christopher Howe. The wavy top will stop things falling off the edge – perfect for the in-the-dark-grope to turn the phone over so you can see the time – while the storage below has lots of space for a pile of books or slightly hidden from view beauty products. Pricey, but lovely.
