Storage
We all want to be effortlessly organised. Take the sweat out of storage with our pick of the best cupboards, cabinets, shelves and boxes around.

- Olsen Burl SideboardSoho Home
Sometimes you just fall in love with a piece for no reason other than it's lovely. This is beautiful and the sort of thing that you should keep forever and turn into a family heirloom. The grained wood gives it character and makes it look expensive (it is expensive) and it will not only hide all the clutter and bumf you don't want on display but give you space on top to arrange lovely things. One for the wishlist (if I had room).
- Luxore Buffet SideboardLa Redoute
This scalloped fronted sideboard is a dupe for Superfront, who make replacement doors and handles for Ikea kitchens. The good news is it's only 42cm deep, which is big enough for A4 storage (amply so) as well as plates and crockery – but means you might, just, have room for it in a hall or kitchen. Sideboards are great in home offices as places to conceal ugly files and printers etc.
- Hanging rack in metal and woodH&M HOME
Having tried to persuade my sons to be tidy with drawers, wardrobes and open baskets and failed at everything, I can tell you that hooks is best. Everyone can put something on a hook. And I know this because my younger son used to open his chest of drawers and “hang” everything over the edge of each drawer.
- Everett Extendable BookcaseLa Redoute
Here’s a clever idea - expanding storage. And who doesn’t wish they had more of that? There is a taller version of this as well, but it’s perfect for home offices as well as children’s bedrooms, where the collection of books both school and leisure tends to grow with their years.
- Buisseau Set of 2 Bedside Wall ShelvesLa Redoute
Back to cane – and if one shelf isn’t enough then why not have two? Book, light and glasses on the top. Tea, clock and charging apparel below.
- Bardi 1-Drawer Bedside TableLa Redoute
A drawer is often high on the list of bedside table requirements, and the curved edge of this piece elevates it above the often chunky cabinets that seem to dominate this section of the interiors market. The metal drawer runners give away that it’s not a more expensive piece, but they are hidden from view when closed.
- USM storageUSM
USM is a Swiss company that was created in the 60s to furnish a factory making ball bearings. The joy is that it is all adaptable and customisable so you can start with a small bedside table and extend and adapt it into an entire media unit. The colours are deliberately restricted so that you can be sure of an exact match with a piece you bought thirty years ago. Known more for their commercial spaces, USM are moving into residential with their adaptable, durable and classic designs. Pricey, but will genuinely last you a lifetime.
- HIBA low metal cabinet with two doorsLa Redoute
Metal office storage will always tend to look industrial, but buying it in an unexpected colour softens the look and means it can work for kids' bedrooms, as well as loft rooms or home offices. This has two shelves and magnetic door closures.
- Lamont kitchen larderGraham & Green
A few years ago no house was complete without an en suite or at least a second bathroom. Now that we have all grown accustomed to that the focus has shifted to the kitchen and, in the absence of space for a dedicated pantry - a larder cupboard. This free-standing version is perfect for those who aren't redoing their kitchen to have one built in but might have the space to install one. And it could also go on a landing or in a spare room for linen and laundry essentials as well. One of those pieces of furniture you would always find a use for. By the way - the difference between larder and pantry? Apparently it's from the French - pantry - pain - bread - dry goods. Larder - lard - wet goods meaning dairy produce etc. So this is technically a pantry cupboard rather than a larder cupboard.
